What will you find here? Three topics namely:
- CRAFTS: I love to make things so that I don’t have to buy them. I am simple (sometimes frugal) and crafting is a way to relax and ease my mind.
- EXPLORATION: When I met Terence we made a pact to do a big vacation every year (typically out of the country) and we have been doing it ever since 2009. We have traveled to multiple countries (mainly for climbing) and places while living in the van. These posts are mainly for me to remember what we did at each of these locations.
- CLIMBING: These posts highlight the climbing destinations we have visited and rest day activities. In addition, I wanted to document some of the tips for vanlife while climbing in these areas since some of that information was not as easily accessible online.
ABOUT ME
- B.S. in Engineering
- >10 years working in industry post-college
- Rock climbing since 2011
- Living in the van for >3 years
- Traveled around North America in a self-converted van for >18 months
I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I went to University of California, Davis and graduated with a B.S. in Biological Systems Engineering. After college, I delayed my graduation to study abroad in England and Italy. Then I went backpacking around Europe with my college roommate. I returned home with $50 left in my bank account.
When I returned, I landed a job at Genentech where I stayed at the company for the next 10 years. I first supported the Quality Control organization. After a couple of years, I wanted to revisit my engineering roots and started a role in the Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) group.
During that time I met my husband Terence and he introduced me to rock climbing. We progressed from gym climbing to outdoor climbing. Now, we love to travel around the world to climb. In 2017, we left our jobs to travel and climb around North America in our self-converted van (@vanwardbound)!
It’s been an experience living in a ~60 square foot space with your significant other. Follow along and contact me if you have any questions!
